Post-Operative Instructions—Liposuction
When you awake from your procedure, you will find that you are wearing an
abdominal binder, girdle, or tight leg garments.
These are to be worn at
all times, except during showering, and should be laundered frequently to
keep clean.
-
During the first few days, there will be fluid oozing from the small incisions.
This fluid was placed during the procedure to allow for both a better cosmetic
result and pain control. It is always the case that some of this comes to
the surface after the surgery. It may appear red, but this is also normal
and should not cause concern.
Do not take any aspirin or aspirin-containing medicines for two weeks after
surgery. If you have any pain, take Tylenol or the prescription medicine you
were given after the surgery. You may resume all of your other medicines on
the day after surgery. If you have any questions, please call the office.
-
You may shower 48 hours following your surgery.
For the first two days following the procedure, you should do only light
physical activities such as walking to the kitchen or dining room to
eat, to the bathroom, or elsewhere that is not strenuous (do not stay
constantly in bed). You should not drive during this period.
For the next week, you should do limited regular activities such as going
to the grocery store or doing other non-strenuous activities.
Beginning two weeks after surgery, you can resume light exercise such as
walking or swimming.
After one month, you usually can resume all activities without limitations.
After surgery, please immediately call the office for any signs of shortness
of breath, fevers, undue pain, or lightheadedness.
